UK International Student Demand Is Changing

International student demand for UK universities could remain strong through 2030, but where those students come from may become increasingly concentrated.

A new Nature Communications study analysed successful international undergraduate applications from 86 countries between 2010 and 2024 and used economic and demographic projections to examine future demand.

The findings highlight an important challenge for universities: strong international enrolment does not necessarily mean a diversified student population.

For students and institutions alike, the changing pattern reinforces how demographics, economic conditions and global mobility trends are reshaping international higher education.
